Ministry Update: Tech Bells – 2014, Kerala, India
Technopark, Trivandrum
The Outreach at Technopark, Trivandrum, which was conducted on December 17, 2015 was a blessing in many ways.
- The gospel was clearly presented to a large crowd through a message, accompanied by songs and presentations. This was the first time the gospel was shared openly at the campus in Technopark.
- More than 2500 Gideon’s New Testaments and other literatures were distributed.
- Contacts have been established with about 1,800 individuals. Additional materials have been distributed to these people.
- Small group Bible studies, seminars and workshops are being organized for those who have showed interest.
- This ministry was purely faith-based and the Lord met all needs abundantly through voluntary gifts of God’s people.
Future of This Work
At present, there are more than 45,000 IT professionals working on campus, along with double the number of support staff. They have to be reached outside the campus when they are free. Within the next two years, the numbers will double (about 90,000) and thereafter up to 2,00,000 persons are expected to work in this environment within 10 years. This will mean another 2,00,000 support staff and the families of all persons who live near Kazhakkoottom Technocity area. Thus there is very high potential for this work in the near future.
The IT Professionals come from all States in India and a few foreign countries. So this is a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic field which requires special ways of outreach. Many IT professionals come and work here for some time and then move away to other parts of India and the world. This means that this might be their only chance to be exposed to the gospel. So in many ways, this is a great mission field with special requirements.
It requires:
- Workers (voluntary and otherwise) who need to be trained for this kind of setting
- Resources like appropriate literature (printed and electronic)
- Electronic communication tools
- Suitable space to meet with seekers and those who need counselling on life-linked issues and concerns
- Intense prayer support of God’s people
Brother Subash Thankachan, a former IT Professional, is an evangelist in this area. He and his family are in fellowship with Hebron Christian Assembly, Pongumood, Trivandrum. Please pray for him as well as all other believers who are IT professionals employed in various companies on the campus.
Please pray for the outreach activities at Technopark, Trivandrum.
