Ministry Update: Chengannur Evangelistic Mission, Kerala, India

Chengannur:
ministryupdates-tbThe ministry called “Chengannur Taluk Suviseshavalkaranam” was started in the month of October in 1987. Bro. C.A. George, Chitoor House, Chengannur was used by our God to organize this ministry. Number of Gods’ children, most of them non-evangelists, from neighbouring Assemblies joined the ministry. Many of them, say more than 20 are with the Lord in glory at this time. Every month, 2nd and 4th Saturdays were used for the ministry i.e. house visits, prayer, meditation from word of God and open air meetings. At least one day in a week brothers used to spend time in prayer together.

Due to old age and other physical ailments, Bro. C.A. George expressed his inability to carry on the responsibility further and in the meeting held on 2.10.2010. Seva Samithi was formed as a fellowship of like minded brothers to continue the work. Even now the ministry is continuing along with additional prayer meetings and other gatherings.

Brothers involved were of conviction that Gospel should not have any geographical boundary and thereby its activities were extended to Alleppey and Pathanamthitta Districts also in a limited way. Further the need for evangelising India was felt by brothers and a one day conference was held on 2.10.2012 at B.B.C. auditorium, Kallissery. The theme for the conference was ‘the responsibility of Brethren in Indian Evangelisation.’

The conference was well attended and more than 8 speakers such as Dr. O.M. Samuel, Eva. Mathew Paul, Binu Samuel, etc. addressed the gathering. The burden for Indian evangelization was confirmed in the hearts of brothers by Holy Spirit.

As a first step, it was decided to encourage the ministry in Odisha and accordingly, a meeting was held on 12th January 2013 around the theme ‘Odisha Calling’ at brethren Assembly Hall Kumbanad which was addressed by Eva. C. P. Mathew, Joseph Masih Das of Odisha and Eva. John Kurian. The matter how Brethren outside Odisha could participate in Odisha mission was considered and areas of involvement were identified. Thus CEM got involved in Odisha mission and the ministry is continuing with great fruitfulness by Grace of God.

ABOUT STATE OF ODISHA

Population: 4.2 crores
Villages: 51352
Districts: 30
Brethren Assemblies: 90 (approximate)
Evangelists: 100 (approximate)
Brethren believers: 6000 (approximate)

Brethren Assembly work was started in 1960s. God has used his children to establish many Assemblies. Missionaries, T.M. Sebastian and Sunny T. Daniel who were used mightily in this state had gone to be with the Lord. Evangelists from other States are not moving much to Odisha as missionaries.

The ministry in the State is being carried out mainly by Evangelists of Odisha. Many young believers had training in our Bible Colleges and they contribute substantially to Gospelisation. Out of 30 Districts, more than 10 are without any Assembly testimony. Many villages and towns remain unreached. The work in the State will have to be carried out through the local Assemblies and Evangelists. No doubt, visits and participation from outside the State will be of great help. But the work can be sustained only by the State Assemblies and Evangelists. Taking this factor into account, CEM is rendering financial, moral and spiritual support to Assemblies and Evangelists in following areas.

1. Supporting village Evangelisation
2. Encouraging regional gatherings of believers and Evangelists
3. Conducting training courses and short term Bible schools
4. Arranging Sunday School books and other literatures
5. Construction of small Assembly Halls
6. Providing motor bikes to needy Evangelists, etc.

Our function is to make known the actual position in the field to Kerala Brethren in and outside Kerala. Brethren from CEM do visit Odisha now and then to get acquainted and also as a matter of identification and encouragement to Odisha Brethren. Also contacts with Evangelists are maintained as a matter of encouragement.

With prayer, and united effort we have to get engaged in Evangelisation to reach the maximum number of perishing souls considering that our time is short and the work is vast.
