Ministry Update: India Ministry International

Santa Clara:

ministryupdates-tbDear Brethren,

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few, ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matt. 9:37-38).

I just returned from India, having spent over 2 months there. Even the very last day we were able to lead a young Hindu mother to the Lord. It seems as though she was waiting for us. It was indeed a trip of harvest. In 65 days 58 people trusted the Lord and many were unreached Hindus. I know many are still waiting to hear the good news for the first time.

As I mentioned in my last letter, I had the privilege to be in Malabar, the northern part of Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, both I found very exciting and felt the soil was prepared for the harvest. However, my first and last stop was Chirankizhu, where the believers were attacked and scattered since March 10th of last year. Kindly continue to pray for the situation.

MALABAR: In many ways, Malabar is like North India, though it is the northern part of Kerala. In 6 counties we have 20 million people, half of the population of California or Canada. But the people here (mainly Hindus) are much more open than the people in North India. I had 2 very profitable trips to this part, and felt so encouraged to see assemblies with vibrant believers from non-Christian backgrounds. Though I had been there before, this time I returned from there with a renewed interest to return because of the harvest.

TAMIL NADU: Another part of South India with undoubtedly a lot of harvest taking place. Though my knowledge of the Tamil language is limited, I enjoyed the friendliness of the believers and the openness of the non-believers.

The one day conference for workers in a village (name withheld) for reaching out to Hindus went very well. The organizers did a very good job and we were all looked after well by the hospitality and the generosity of the church of former Hindus. Their only reputation (?) before this as a people group was “plundering” other villages.

I went to several other places in Tamil Nadu and had meetings. But one place is Rameswaram, a Hindu pilgrim place by the Bay of Bengal. Every day just before the sunrise, literally thousands of people take a dip in the sea by the famous temple to wash away their sins. We know what can wash away our sins. I found my old friend faithfully sharing the message there since 1982. He says 35% of the people in Ramesawaram believe in the Lord Jesus. Of course, a lot of them need discipling, which is an ongoing challenge.

Soon I will be back in India though I have not fully recovered from my travels . I have a comfortable bed, home, and a caring family. It is very tempting to stay back. But as I said, Hindus are knocking. The Lord has given me a three-fold passion over the years. I request your earnest prayers.
1. Evangelize the Hindus through a strategy called Veranda evangelism.
2. To bring back the new believers who have backslidden.
3. A ministry to the “wounded soldiers”. People in the ministry get so tired, and some are no longer in the ministry as a result. I need you to stand with me as I minister with several limitations.

Thank you very much.

Yours That The Hindus May Hear,

Pushpan
