URGENT APPEAL TO THE FULL TIME ASSEMBLY WORKERS IN INDIA
Dear Servants of the Lord,
I am writing this letter on behalf of Gospel Missions of India (GMI). Recently Operation Barnabas, Bangalore (OB) has announced a Health Insurance plan for all assembly commended workers and their families in India. This was in par with our (GMI) desire for long time and has decided to support it. We have also learned from OB that some other organizations and individuals have also come forward and offered support.
Medical coverage is one of the greatest needs among the full-time workers in India. Therefore, it has been a great burden in our hearts too for a long time. We know of many full-time workers who couldn’t seek timely treatment even for serious sickness for want of funds. Many times urgently needed and life threatening surgeries were postponed as doctors seek their fee in advance. Many evangelists in India cannot even afford to buy the regular requisite medicine to maintain their on going health needs which has resulted in to severe health problems later on. In the past, we have helped several of them in their urgent health care needs rushing funds from our office, or facilitating it through Operation Barnabas.
Now, as OB has negotiated with a Health Insurance agency in Bangalore to provide an insurance plan for Assembly commended workers we must consider it as a golden opportunity and take the full advantage of it. For the success of this program; especially to get the least premium payment for each evangelist and better coverage, maximum participation from the full time Assembly workers and their families are needed. The whole purpose of this program is to meet the real health care needs of our Assembly workers and not to enhance a particular ministry or a person in India. GMI will make every effort to make this programme a success and ensure our Assembly workers pay the least for their premiums while getting the maximum service for them. As this is a new endeavour in India we, all those who are involved with it, are also learning few things in the process and do not have answers for all the questions. But we need your full cooperation and patience to organise a much needed Health care plan for our commended workers. Once it is finalised we will be in a much better position to answer many of the questions and concerns that may have raised now.
Presently OB is collecting data from those who are interested (evangelists) to submit it to the insurgence company for their perusal. The age limit is 65 years and widows of evangelists also can join. Only after the full data had been scrutinised the insurance company can come up with a plan. The success of this plan totally depends on the cooperation and participation of our evangelists all across India. So, we will seek the help of all funding agencies, ministries, families and Assemblies to encourage all the commended full time workers to join this program. We humbly request you, not to believe any accusations or allegations levelled against this program, as our only interest is to help the God’s servants among us. We assure you, this is not to form an organization or exercise control over the God’s servants rather our only goal is to alleviate their sufferings and remove the concerns about the medical care of their families. So, we seek support, prayer and cooperation from every believer affiliated with Brethren Assemblies in India and abroad to make this program a real success. Hope you will do that.
