Update on 111-th Brethren General Convention 2013, Kumbanad, Kerala.
Brethren General Convention is hosted by 128 Brethren assemblies in the Central Travancore area of Kerala. The convention is held for 7 days, usually towards the end of the year; and attracts anywhere between 3000-4000 people. The convention has multiple programs throughout the day, like general sessions, sessions for children, women, Evangelists, Missionary reports, family conference, special topics, Bible classes, music ministry, public open air meetings (in around 24 localities), and common worship meeting on closing Sunday. Food and accommodation is arranged for more than 250 Evangelists who come from North Indian states and different parts of India to attend these meetings, and renew their fellowship with the brethren.
Each year, a committee is formed to organize these various activities. The committee members are from the 128 hosting assemblies. There are multiple sub-committees formed that focus on their responsibilities, like Finance committee, Food committee, Program committee, Media committee, etc. After the convention, the functions and responsibilities of the committee is over and will meet only to finalize the accounts. The committee is then dissolved and a new committee will be formed to organize the next convention.
It has been 114 years since the first convention; this is the 111-th year, Brethren General Convention is being held and has mostly always been held at the Kumbanad Brethren General Convention Ground next to the Kumbanad Brethren Assembly. A pandal is built each year on the ground for this purpose.

In the light of a published news article about problems at this year’s convention at Kumbanad, we feel that it is prudent to update the believers on this matter. The news article highlighted that, the invited speakers will abstain from the convention this year unless problems are resolved.
The speakers had a misunderstanding that some problems exist between Kumbanad Brethren Assembly and the convention committee. The Lord’s servants were convinced that there are no disputes between the local assembly and the convention committee; and they decided to attend and speak during the convention.
