Ministry Update: Fiji
Fiji:
Greetings in Our Lord’s Precious Name.
It’s time to give you an update for focused prayer. I am also halfway through my time here in Fiji. It’s my privilege to reach out to this unreached people. I am confident that you are standing with me in prayer. Together, we are able to make a dent to the enemy territory.
FIJI: This is a tropical land very similar to the place I grew up in India ( Kerala). It was known as ” the paradise of the Pacific” and it was a thriving country. Now the situation has changed, with the military rule the people are increasingly poor. Half of the population are Indians and Hindi speaking. 41 % of them are Hindus, and very unreached with the Gospel.
MINISTRY: The biggest cash crop is Sugar cane, and sugar is the biggest export. Most Indian men with very little education work in the field, cutting sugar cane. They have a few breaks during the day, out of the blazing heat of the Sun. This is when we take advantage of their breaks in talking about the SON. They enjoy our Hindi singing and my Hindi preaching for ten minutes. Thereafter those who have further interest invite us in the evening to their homes to meet the family to share and pray. This is how the opportunities unfold for “VERANDA EVANGELISM.” Everyday Hindu people pray to receive the Lord. This is a thrill to watch, and provide a challenge for follow up.
PARTNERS: In this ministry, I get local help and partnership from believers. I want you to pray for my main co-worker. Bro. Janardhana Reddy is 42 years old, along with his wife and daughter packed up their idols and turned to the Lord six years ago. Since my last visit 3 years ago here in Fiji, he called me almost every month asking about my next visit. As I promised I am here now joining with him in reaching out to fellow Indians with a very similar background. However, I cannot match up with his enthusiasm for outreach.
Everyday we walk, which is good for my health. But I feel easily worn out. My co-worker has no transportation, not even a bicycle. We don’t have even an auto-rikshaw (Indian mini-taxi) to hire. So even after taking a bus, we end up walking in the fields. This family is an inspiration to me in serving the Lord. They have a very humble two room house. DO NOT yet have electricity, now you can imagine the rest of the situation. I was used to live with out electricity, but not for a long time. Sleeping under the tin roof with out even a table fan now. How can I leave them, the man of God vacated their only bed for me, and he sleeps in the same room on the floor.
I am challenged when at the last moment his Hindu employer backed out of giving him a month off from work, he resigned his job to be with me. Last year March along with his house several houses were submerged in his area due to the flood and lost everything. Two months ago some naughty boys knocked him and his daughter, and he lost two front tooth. Yet nothing could dampen his enthusiasm in evangelizing his people. In this work, I am only giving him a hand for a month.
1. Do pray for Janardhana Reddy.
2. Pray for several people who received the Lord and for the follow up work
3. My own health- very difficult to walk.
4. Protection from the evil ones.
5. Keep my family in prayers.
6. We may seek His face daily.
Thank you for standing with me, that the Hindus may hear.
