Article: Facebook – Handle with care!
I am very active on Facebook. Thus I am fully aware of the power of Facebook.
What shocks me, however, is the careless way in which many people use this social site. They forget that just as a razor that is useful for shaving can wreck havoc with life when given to a toddler, Facebook is a social site that can wreck havoc in many young lives if the older ones are careless.
Consider one recent example. A pornographer created a fake identity in the name of a well-known evangelist (who is not active on Facebook). Instead of a photograph of that evangelist the faker put a cross as the picture. He then sent friend invitation to a large number of prominent Christians. Many of them looked at the name and accepted the invitation without even checking the “home page” on this id.
The home page contained FIVE pornographic pictures along with very vulgar titles.
Once about 30+ prominent persons accepted their invitations, and once their pictures started showing on the page of this pornographer, he started sending friend invitations to younger people. Seeing the pictures of these prominent men, these young people simply accepted the friend request.
Worse, after doing that, these young people EXPLORED the pornographic pictures — as some of them confessed to me, after I sent letters of warning to all of them.
Eventually I was able to get all the younger ones and older ones out of friendship, but much harm was already done. The young people are not to be blamed. It is the older people who “lent” their name who are to be blamed.
Remember, if anyone causes the little ones to stumble, great is going to be their punishment. Thus handle Facebook and internet with great care.
