Pray for Nepal – Updates from MSC Canada
PRAY FOR NEPAL IN THE AFTERMATH
(via Benji & Gillian Daniel in India, April 26th) The earthquake in Nepal took place on Saturday at 11:56 am Nepal Standard time. Churches usually gather on a Saturday for worship and the breaking of bread, as Sunday is a working day in Nepal. Thus most of the Christians were inside church buildings or in house-churches when this disaster occurred, and are safe by and large.
Large areas of Nepal are without electricity, water and even radio, so information is coming from outside Nepal by phone. The elder whom Benji phoned, has a solar unit so he is able to recharge his phone. Please keep Nepal in prayer at this time.
(via A Worker Close to Nepal, April 25th) The strong earthquake that hit Nepal certainly shook things up here as well. We thought the epicenter must be near as it lasted seemingly as long as the one we had in 2011. But then discovered it was in Nepal. Haven’t been able to get through to anyone there. A call from B. came once but couldn’t answer it and I tried calling back it also rang once but he didn’t pick up. The networks are down all over the country so that’s probably why. We were on the terrace so things were really swaying – felt the shaking as much as in 2011 but it wasn’t as noisy. The trees were all swaying and you could see the rods on the building next door swaying back and forth. Still getting occasional aftershocks, which of course, shake you up. There was no damage here other than broken picture frames that fell down. Anyhow, just thought I’d let you know that we’re all fine. Pray for the believers in Kathmandu – no idea when we’ll get word.
(via A Worker Close to Nepal, April 28th) We have since been in touch with all of our friends, family and fellow believers in Nepal. All are safe. There are eight assemblies in Kathmandu and all the believers are accounted for. Many have damaged homes but none destroyed. The last we heard they were sleeping outside due to the fear of aftershocks. Perhaps they have returned home now. We have not heard of any damage to assembly halls either. The believers would have all been at the meeting when the earthquake took place, as the weekly holiday in Nepal is Saturday so most of the meetings are held then. Please pray for peace of mind for them. Even here we get nervous when a door slams and the floor shakes a little. How much more them. One young brother in Kathmandu lived across from a seven-story building, which held a children’s hostel. All the children perished. So their hearts are no doubt troubled and fearful at times. Pray for much wisdom to be a witness in fearful times and to be a help to many unbelieving neighbours and friends. Thanks for thinking of us here and praying.
